Ilkley Swimming Club is a small non-profit making organisation run by volunteers and based at the indoor pool in Ilkley. Our aim is for our members to improve and progress their swimming as far as they want - be this competitive, for fitness or the simple pleasure of swimming. We encourage and develop good sportsmanship, individual integrity, fitness, team spirit and provide an environment in which swimmers can realise their full potential at all levels.
We provide coached sessions for both Junior and Masters swimmers using qualified coaches, experienced in both competing and coaching at high levels. We meet three times per week – each evening is split into two sessions. Junior swimmers use the earlier sessions whilst stronger Juniors attend the later sessions, alongside our Masters (adult) swimmers. Members are welcome to swim on all three evenings. You will be advised which session is appropriate when you join.
We compete in local galas (Airedale & Wharfedale and Bradford District galas and the City of Bradford Rising Stars), hold our own annual Ilkley Swimming Gala and run regular time trials. We encourage our junior swimmers to take part in galas (and to progress to the City of Bradford training scheme if they want) but this is not a requirement. Others use their swimming for triathlons for for fitness for other sports. Master swimmers include competitive swimmers, triathletes and open water swimmers.
Parents and older junior swimmers are encouraged to regularly help poolside, especially when doing time trials.
